Materials we work with

There is a huge potential for this process in many areas, in fact it’s true to say that there is not much we can’t clean up with our equipment, just ask!

Fiberglass

Whether it be a boat, car, plane or any other object made from fibreglass, we can remove the paint for you. We can use either of our media for this process.

If you have a vehicle that you do not want to strip down completely, we would use soda blasting which will not damage rubber or chrome and will not “etch” window glass on overspray as other media do this also reduces the need for masking or protection according to the application.

Our method will expose any existing flaws in the fibreglass but will not make them worse, so they can then be repaired in the normal way. Again, this is a process which can be wet or dry blasting according to the application and environment.

If you have any questions then please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Glass

Our methods are sufficiently gentle so as not to damage glass

and we can remove paints and coatings, grease and dirt, leaving the surface pristine.
On a more specialist level, our equipment is also able to “etch” glass if required with designs or words, or simply to make it opaque, whatever your requirements.

Wood Treatment

Blast cleaning wood may sound a little unusual or extreme ,but when we think about how we would normally remove paint and coatings that’s not actually the case. Traditionally we could use a blowlamp and scraper (risk of burning), paint stripper (toxic) or sanding (laborious), all of which can be relatively slow compared to blasting.

Obviously blasting will not remove stains which have soaked into the wood but we can remove paints and varnishes in a very efficient manner. Blasting will also remove charring due to fire damage as well as moulds and fungi leaving the wood ready for further treatment. We can also strip doors, floors, beams, mantels and furniture, taking them all back to the original appearance, they can then be “finished” as desired.

Blasting works best on hardwoods as on softer woods such as pine there can be some raised grain following treatment, if you have any questions contact us and we will be happy to discuss this with you

Stone and Brick

Over the years, stone can build up layers of tarnishing

from pollution, algae, graffiti, paints and dirt leaving the surface, in many cases, dull and unattractive. In the case of paths and other flat surfaces, build up of algae can leave surfaces slippery and dangerous too, particularly in the wet so our processes also have health and safety applications.
Blast cleaning exterior stone can be done “wet” where a supply of water is fed into the jet, this helps keep dust levels down which aids clean up and cushions the more abrasive elements of the media maintaining surface integrity and reducing overspray.
Stone cleaned in this way will normally take on its original “as new” appearance and will stay cleaner longer than with jet washing or steam cleaning.

We DO NOT RECOMMEND using abrasive methods for removing paint from exterior brick as this can damage the brick “skin” leading to moisture penetration and potential “blowing” of the brick face with frost damage etc. We ARE, however able to remove most paints from exterior brickwork with an environmentally friendly chemical method, this maintains the integrity of the brickwork.

Metals

Our cleaning is a gentler process than shot blasting, which means we can remove paints, coatings, dirt, grease and rust without damaging the surface. As mentioned elsewhere soda blasting leaves a very smooth surface, neutralises any rust and is protected by a film which delays any “flash rusting” for up to a couple of weeks. Surfaces so treated may still need rubbing down to provide a good “key” for painting. Archifine, our other main medium, leaves the surface “keyed” for painting but not protected against flash rusting, so immediate priming, climate controlled storage or some other form of protection is advised. Both media are gentle enough not to distort surfaces, in fact soda can even strip paint from a soft drinks can without damage.

We believe our methods are suitable for all types of metals from aluminium aircraft to cast iron furniture, railway locomotives to pushbikes, you name it.

Concrete

As with stone and brick, blast cleaning will restore the original appearance,

this can be critical in architectural applications. Our cleaning methods will remove oil, tar and grease marks, paint and graffiti as well as slippery algae which can be important from a health and safety point of view.

It is worth mentioning that we can also clean tarmac without damage and remove painted white or yellow lines, useful for re-marking out car parks. Again, “wet” blasting is the norm for these applications.
